The easiest and book move way to do it is to use a standard flash circuit but to replace the thyristor with a high voltage mosfet, and to add another mosfet at the Cathode of the flash tube. This also allows you to select the on time of the flash in each of the fill and the main flashes and to do several flashes on one main cap charge. More advanced professional uses involve not having a charge cap at all and running the flash tube directly off of a high power dc/dc converter. Keep in mind that you need a guard time of a few msec before turning on the Cathode mosfet again, after it was used to interrupt a flash, to avoid relighting the plasma arc.
