I think your rant is justified. Perhaps this device has a manufacturing error which began after it was approved? Isn't there some way you could submit a complaint to the approval authority yourself? Maybe even anonymously if you are concerned about it getting back to your "senior being"? I am curious, though: what is a CD monitor? I tried to google it but that's a bit tough given that CD is such a common acronym.
