I had initially missed that this is NOT their top camera, not being a Canon man. This is an EOS1Dxxx series camera which uses a 1.3 x crop sensor. Their true full frames are numbered EOS1Dsxxx - the "s" denoting the larger sensor. Given the overall cost of the camera and the probable cost of the sensor and the effort they seem to have put into optimising performance, I'd have thought that the best thing they could do for it would be to throw away the sensor and use the full frame one. And yes, I know that the marketing department won't let you, and that the lens requirements are more stringent etc. If they REALLY wanted to make marketing happy they could go to true full-frame without increasing the pixel count, but with their "new improved" microlenses. That way they'd get a real camera. (Maybe even as good as a Nikon D3 :-) - which does just that.)
