I have bought parts from Digikey in the US (into Australia) ... and in my case the parts cost approx $2.50 each (for 5 x DIL 8 pin ic's) ... but the freight cost $80 !!! They were not negotiable on freight or freight options ... if I wanted the bits, I had to pay the freight. At the time my only other alternative was to buy a replacement pcb for the device I was repairing ... and that was around $500. There might be something in their location name after all.
