There are many other aspects that are usually not addressed in discussions like this. For example -- as I tried to express already -- probably a 16bit architecture is a better value for the very same amount of money than an 8bit one -- except if there is a very good reason for that 8bit chip (like a special module or that DMA with external SRAM accessibility).
