Just for general info (whoever he or she may be). I installed 8.40 on my W7 64 bit PC, replacing v8.36 (which worked perfectly). I've noticed the following things with 8.40. 1. MPLAB forgets previous workspaces, and will not reload them even if manually pointed to their location(s). At start up it will provide a blank workspace, but actually directing it to a previous one, closes that and leaves just a blank grey IDE. The project wizard has to be run and then any files re-attached. 2. It will NOT recognise the installation of Hi-Tech-C lite version. As soon as the location is filled in, in the select language tools locationclicking OK causes it to forget the information. It does remember the CCS path, though this was part of the MPLAB install. Co-incidentally so was the HiTech compiler the first time round, but MPLAB still wouldn't recognise it. Microchip 'C' for Pic24 works fine. 3. Clicking on compile causes a screen redraw problem and occasionally a Windows sharing violation. I haven't installed MPLAB in the default location of C:\ as I use a separate partition for all my programming and electronics stuff. As 8.36 works (or did) I shall probably return to that version.
