Spam is certainly the issue that makes it all obvious, but I don't like that all PIClist traffic is hung out there for all to see in places beyond the official archive that we may not even be aware of, and with machine readable email addresses on top of that. The offical archive on piclist.com at least tries to obfuscate the email addresses. Note that web forums pretty much never (at least within my limited experience) make poster's addresses public. I also realize that there is no technical means to prevent people from doing this, and no realistic enforcement of legal means.
