I actually have the exact same experience. I have almost stopped checking my spam folder, doing once every now and then, until I noticed the other day that I had quite a few piclist mails in there. Would be interesting to see the heuristics like with other spam filters. And yes, gmail has a brilliant spam filter. The only spam I've received in the past few months were on a list which I marked as "don't send to spam", because it had similar spam results as the piclist does.
