My thinking was, if the spam was coming from the list, I should be 
getting it also, since other than the AVG, firewall, and router/modem, I 
don't have any other protection in place, but that's not happening. I 
use Thunderbird, and my phone company is my ISP, neither has any special 
filtering, or blocking of my E-mail. I appreciate that others may have 
issues, beyond their control including some corporate IT's that would be 
better doing something else.

 I don't have an issue with the thinking of not sending out our 
addresses as a routine. If one would want to start a private exchange, 
that could be handled by putting your address in a message body. That 
address could be a temporary one, and once contact was established, 
permanent addresses could be exchanged privately. Although I think the 
world map with people's location pin pointed, at the same time I 
consider it somewhat of a security risk, and have not participated. :(

A few years back, I was a contributor to a homebuilt airplane passworded 
list. Somewhere in time, the archives became public. I felt that 
unknowledgeable persons could do dangerous things with some of the 
threads, and became much more tight lipped. :(
