Because we're using the LF PICs now and noticed it being more sensitive to static than the previous. In fact, with the previous 4.2V PICs we never noticed any problems when merely walking closer to it, even on the same circuit layout. With these you can just touch the insulation on the wire running from the power supply, rub your foot against the floor ONCE and it would reboot (before we fixed the problem). Though the 4.2V wasn't this sensitive. (We switched because the previous engineer was running the 4.2V pic at 3.3V - and a switch was easier than redesigning and remanufacturing all the boards).
