Most potting compounds heat a lot when curing, and the LCDs are very sensitive to heat. I've seen LCDs that got heated, and while they are hot the image get darkened, almost unreadable. The surface becomes black/dark blue. If the heat is not too severe, some LCDs recover their properties after cooling, but I've seen some that remained dark or stained.
