May I recommend using a half bridge driver from IR: IR22141 https://ec.irf.com/v6/en/US/adirect/ir?cmd=catProductDetailFrame&productID=I R22141SSPBF This is actually a 1200V IC, so it might not be ok for you since your MOSFETs are 1500V, but on the subject you said 1000V, so.... It has over current shutdown, under voltage protection and 2A source 3A sink current capability.
