I'm wanting to play with the MRF49XA transceiver from Microchip, but I kind of like the module approach that Vitaliy used on the bluetooth board. I'm thinking of designing a board to play with the transceiver that matches the I/O arrangement of that module so that I can drop it into the same board - and using RP assignable pins, talk to either the bluetooth module or the MRF49 module. Is anyone designing or selling a module based on the MRF49 that has or plans to have FCC approval? If not, does anyone have any thoughts on "modularizing" an add-on like this (interface pinout, connector type, physical size, antenna options)? What would a modular transceiver based on this part be worth if it were pre-certified? Would anyone on-list have an interest in using it? I probably couldn't make enough profit on development boards to pay for the FCC testing (unless I got it put into distribution), but it would help spread the cost a little and I can think of several places I might be able to use it. Of course, it won't be long until M/C is marketing a pre-certified module using this chip for $9.95, but I don't want to wait that long.
