I've used the LT1944-1 a few times. It's a dual boost converter. I
typically use it to take two NiMH batteries and boost to 3.3V and 14V (for
an OLED display). I pretty much used the circuit from their eval board,
changing the feedback.

On the National part you used, doesn't National have an online designer
application that does most of the job? I haven't looked recently.
