Let go of the pogo pins and it just falls off, let go of a pin strip and the chances are it will stay in the holes. Slight sideways pressure at the top of the pin strip holds it in position and the sharp corners of the pins bite into top and bottom edges of the pads for excellent contact. Long pins allow the pins to flex a little ensuring each pin applies pressure to its contact points. The only possible problem is having something metallic under the PCB which the pins could short on. I have used .1" pin strip stuck straight in the end of a PICKit2.
