Most (though sadly not all) flex has it's CSA > printed on the outer sheath. 0.75mm=B2 flex is rated for 6A and 1.0mm=B2 > flex is rated for 10A. I've seen a lot of IEC Male-female leads with > 0.75mm=B2 too (which I personally consider dodgy since in that > configuration there is no fuse). It's pretty easy to tell the difference when you bend it. Most equipment here (Australia) has 6A cable (with 7.5A plugs), with a few having 10A. All extensions leads at least claim to be 10A, I'm fairly sure that's a legal thing. Testifying to the hazards of a small sample, I've discovered nearly all of the stuff near me has 10A IEC leads, while the 6A ones are in the spare cords box. Some weird instinct has caused me to use the heavy stuff. Interesting point though, I'd assumed the IEC leads were all 10A, having '10A' stamped on the plugs doesn't help. I doubt I'm the only one. I'll have to remember that next time I try to jam one into a kettle.
