In your opinion. In this case, I see it as a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" sort of situation. > If something > had been good for some time, it does not mean it would be good > forever. In general, very true. In this case, I don't see it, at least not yet. In an engineer's mindset: What problem are you trying to solve by moving away from a reed switch? Reliability wise my experience, along with many others here is the reliability is more then good enough. So, what other problem are you trying to solve? About the ONLY thing I can see is the wire to the switch. That has been solved with wireless solutions, which themselves have issues. Personally, unless there is a very good reason I always choose wired solutions. Wireless is great, but it is oftentimes finicky, never mind the issue of power (having to replace yet another battery). Engineers don't find a new solution simply because they can, they find new solutions when the old one is no longer good enough. In this case I don't think we're there yet. The proof of course is the fact that almost every wired speedo you buy uses a reed switch, if there were a definitively better solution it would take over. Some day that will likely happen, we're not there yet. TTYL -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
