I'm quite sure there are several breeds of reed switches. I'm not up-to-date on the technology, but there must be (silver) plated and non-plated contacts, and probably others. There were mercury wetted contacts. Molded or not. I suppose some of the better ones will be more reliable. But I still prefer any other alternative!
