You can pick up basic cycle computers in the big supermarkets in the UK (e.g. Tesco, Sainsbury) for a few UKP that have all the features that most could want, speed, average speed, trip, timers etc. e.g. http://tinyurl.com/mohs26 You can buy similar ones direct from Hong Kong on eBay for about half the price, including shipping. There is no way you are going to match the cost, size and power consumption of something like this from off the shelf components.
