He's looking in the wrong spot. And they're not that simple a device, they're getting quite (often pointless) feature packed these days. I've got one that measures distance to 4 decimals places, that's a bit of overkill. I could use it on a scale model I suppose. He should pull a VFD out of a microwave & use that for a display. Now that'd be cool. I've got the perfect one kicking around here somewhere.
