Peter The dspic family is a 1 clock/instruction like the avr. 40 Mhz = 40 mips with the same exceptions as the avr. Whats more, it's 16 bits. I would not be surprised if it held its' own against the sx in most general purpose apps. Add minimal dsp requirments and the race is over before it starts. And it's cheap.
