I second that. Mice seem to REALLY like peanut butter. When I lived in a place with a mouse problem, I used to use live-capture traps because of several incidents where the "normal" traps injured but did not kill the mice. I used about a teaspoon worth of peanut butter as bait in each trap. I would typically find the mice in the trap, very alert and staring at me through the plastic, having eaten the entire dollop of peanut butter. I guess things don't really scale like this, but that would be like me eating several jars of peanut butter in one sitting! I would take the mice at least a mile away from my house and release them outside. I also found that I could only re-use the traps if I thoroughly washed them out. If I didn't do a good job, other mice would not go into the trap. I theorized that they could smell the scent from the other mouse and it made them suspicious of the trap. I also often found that they were able to extract the bait without getting stuck in the trap unless it was pushed all the way to the back end of the trap. They struck me as amazingly smart little creatures for their size.
