I too have the need to switch PCs often (sometimes more than once a day), and I got tired of always having a different setup/tools availability, etc. Now I carry some of my tools as portable apps together with the files I'm working on in a thumb drive and everywhere I go they are available to me the same way I'm used to. The apps available as portable apps that I use most are Notepad++ Portable, OpenOffice.org Portable, WinMerge Portable, Mozilla Thunderbird Portable and 7-Zip Portable. There are lots of other famous applications available as portable apps also, such as The Gimp, Mozilla Firefox, VLC Media Player, and much more. Everything free and open-source.
