I think if there is a centrifugal switch in the motor it is not the problem. The motor is disconnected from electricity when the door is open or the timer is off. You can't just let current flow through either winding for long periods of time without the motor spinning, it would consume current all the time and probably overheat. You would know by now if that were the case. There must be a "run" relay that has stuck contacts. On my dryer(Kenmore, electric), if the door is open and I push the start button, I hear no extra noise(hum, click, etc), even if the timer is on an "on" position. The only noise I hear is from the timer motor whenever it is in an "on" position. So I think you have both the door switch and the timer protecting the motor. As your attorney, I'd advise you to keep it away from children, but otherwise proceed with benign neglect.
