It's easy: 1) plug in guitar. 2) step on cable. The plug doesn't break, the cable pulls straight out of it. It can usually be resoldered. Sometimes the jack is mounted in relatively thin wood or a plastic pickguard, which fails expensively. Leo Fender really got it right with the Stratocaster jack: the cable exits in the direction of cable strain, so a tug just pulls the cable out.
