I'm not sure what your constraints are, but I'd think long and hard before replacing the standard USB connector. I'm not sure what durability advantage you'd have. The full-size USB connectors are remarkably sturdy. I've broken plenty of 6.3mm phone plug connectors, but never a USB one. The worst I've done is roll my chair over an "A" plug and flatten the housing. A minute's work with a little screwdriver and it was working fine again. Also, using a spec-violating connector will make sourcing the cable quite a bit more troublesome and expensive. If cable damage does occur, consider the difficulty of obtaining a replacement.
