I like also C and Pascal, but I'm way more productive with C. The main reason C is more productive than assembly is because with it one needs to write *much* less code and worry about *much* less details than with assembly. It leaves much more time to think about the real problem. It is also easier to to reuse code and port to different architectures. Pascal can generate code as efficient as C and the source is much "prettier", but the number of architectures the code can run is much restricted.
