One of the staff I get talking to at the local electronics store asked me on Friday what I use micros for. I described the PIC timer I built many years ago to disconnect (relays) the Internet at 6am. That gives me about 9 hours, ~ 100+ MB, of overnight downloading, leaving the phone working for other people in the morning.
