Remember the joke about the three wise men in the train who see one black half of a sheep on a hill ? They now have access to the protocols, as published, but not to how the original implementors choose to *use* them now. A short walk through the server options on windows and linux will be edifying here, I think. It's like reading two different books in different languages. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they both call themselves 'smb/cifs' implementations. For example I heard that smb servers on windows tweak the tcp stack settings directly or via registry when started. Don't quote me on this but given what is known about that platform I think that the information merits some credit ... there is no replacement for network analyzers and several solutions to smb problems that can be found on the net *do* mention network analyzers. There must be a reason for that ... Peter -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
