I'm looking for a simple software utility that can take an Apple QuickTime .MOV format file and convert it to something that can be edited with Windows MovieMaker such as a .WMF format. It needs to be free. My daughter has been given a school assignment to make a video journal of a volunteer activity to make the world a better place. She has taken on raising some money for our local children's hospital. Unfortunately, this has become a bit of a parent technology project were the parent (me) gets to scrape enough technological bits together so that they can accomplish their video part of the goal. She borrowed a neighbour's old Video 8 camera hoping to use that. After finding what type of film was required and buying a couple cassettes we found that the batteries only last about 30 sec now before going flat - old batteries. We also don't have a video capture card either so transferring and editing on the computer wasn't on. Next she borrowed a friends still camera that can also take movies. We can transfer files to the computer - great! - but then I realized that I couldn't view them because they were in QuickTime and Windows MovieMaker can't import them. I ended up downloading the Apple QuickTime player so I can now see them but need something to be able to convert them to a format that MovieMaker can use. There seems to be quite a few packages $ that will do conversion, editing, etc., but I plan on using MovieMaker for the editing. I'm not very keen on spending money on something that will be used on a school project and then tossed away in a week or so. Got any ideas?
