This is not actually what I meant. SW seems to have a genuine interest in electronics, but he is overconfident to the point of immodesty. I think what Rolf meant was, no amount of lecturing will get SW to change his attitude, so we'll just have to wait for reality to punch him in the face a few times. Several people already related how failing or even just getting a bad grade for a course, can reduce one to tears. Not getting the job you want, or getting fired from one, is arguably even worse.
