Does anybody know of something along the lines of a '595 (8-bit serial to parallel latch) that can drive large loads at 5v? I've seen some with 500mA outputs, but I need double that. I'm not sure yet if all outputs will be on at once, the spec is a little vague. Current thinking is to use something like the '595 and add mosfets or the Allegro drivers (2003, 2801 etc) and parallel the outputs, so then I'd need 3 chips (yeah yeah, I know, the 2003 is 7 bit). Usually qualifiers - ultra cheap and available from everyone in huge quantities - apply. Prefer surface mount, DIP may ok.
