A different approach is to use a flat bed scanner. Usually cheaper than a digital camera and frequently already there. The depth of field is adequate depending on the thickness of the components (smt is great, through hole is less great, & tall capacitors are not great). If you have a flatbed scanner, it's certainly worth trying.
