However there is a limit to how much abuse they can take if you hook the lines up someplace they shouldn't be. For example, if you send enough of an ESD through it, the USB port may become permanently damaged. My point was that you're hooking your computer up to some experimental circuit...you may wind up damaging the computer that way.
