It is annoying to have windows on top of one another. Also, having a second monitor means you don't have to print out datasheets to refer to them while programming. You just open them on the other screen. Everyone I've known who got a second monitor has commented on their productivity increase. You mentioned multiple computers. If you have, like I do, two or more computers at your desk, you might be interested in Synergy: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/. It is a small program that transmits keypress and mouse movements across the network, so that you need only one keyboard and mouse. It is better than a KVM switch: You just mouse over into the other screen to type in it. Also, it synchronizes the cut and paste across the two computers, so you can cut and paste between computers as naturally as you cut and paste between applications on the same computer. (It is also cross-platform, which is probably more important to me than you.)
