I think this is one of those YMMV things.

We have daily FedEx/UPS/USPS pickups, and occasionally there are problems, 
but FedEx doesn't seem to be worse than other carriers. Their rates for 
Ground are very competitive, especially after we've been set up with a 
high-volume account, so we try to ship with FedEx whenever possible (except 
to Canada, this applies to UPS too).
