The app note works fine. I used it with a PIC33FJ256GP506 with success.
But it has some limitations, for instance the PIC must be able to
program a single word of flash at a time. Not all PICs can do this. I
was not able to use it with the PIC18F87J60, which writes only 32 words
at a time.
