Solderability is sometimes a problem due to the 'pretty' plating. Using fine abrasive paper and then rosin flux on the solderable 'pin' helps usually. The post is meant to be have the wire wrapped around it in one turn and then soldered. Be sure to remove the item from the plastic holder before soldering, it takes a lot of heat and it will destroy the plastic if it is attached.
