It seems appropriate for its intended use. Huge antennas are not necessary 
for close operation.

This reminds me of a project I saw once, where two loop antennas were used 
to "talk through the wall". IIRC, they didn't even use a carrier: the output 
of the audio amp was fed directly into the loop.
