IMO there's nothing inherent better in the *x dash compared to the Windows slash; both are just a convention. Escaping spaces in filenames with a prepended backslash one by one (as required by many *x command lines) can be a real pain, too. OTOH, rather than blinding your eyes with hate, just try the dash on Windows... it works for many Microsoft CLI programs (if not for most, which may be difficult to assert).
