When I was in college I used Protel 99SE to design a PCB file to send off to be manufactured into an actual tangible piece of plastic. I don't use MSWindows anymore, so I'm looking for an alternative to Protel 99SE. Here's what I have in mind for the replacement software: * There's a built-in library of components, stuff like diodes and transistors that are commonly used, so that I don't have to create my own symbols and footprints. * I can make up a schematic of a circuit. * From the schematic, I can produce a PCB schematic (the software does this for me). * I can re-arrange the components on the PCB schematic, and also do stuff like specify places where there should be holes in the board. * I can produce some sort of PCB file that can be sent off for manufacture. The software can be free or non-free.
