> One of the first target application for USB 3 is mass storage. The speed > of USB mass storage device will be greatly increased by USB 3 > Super Speed. > On the other hand USB2 is fast enough for most people and in the high speed external hard drives market firewire 800 and eSATA have a considerable headstart over USB 3. eSATA in particular is as almost as fast as USB 3 (and given what happened with USB 2 it would not surprise me if eSATA is faster than USB 3 in pracitce) and can be connected to the drive in the enclosure with a simple wiring adaptor. USB 2 displaced firewire because it was cheaper and integrated in the chipsets, but sata is also integrated in most chipsets and hard drives and it's no huge deal to bring a port out externally. Furthermore USB 3 (unlike USB 2) will need new connectors which don't look cheap to me. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
