(Single stepping, updating watch windows, displaying registers, etc.) That's always been my biggest gripe with MPLAB/ICD2. Of the dozen or so inexpensive serial debuggers I have for various MPUs, that combination is the slowest and most cumbersome. I rarely use it because of that. I would think it should be much faster as well since the same serial data transfer mechanism is used to both program and debug. It looks like the ICD3 is a step in the right direction.
