No, they don't have the approval for sure but maybe they are lucky :)

One short question : accessing the sdcard using SPI is free from any
royalties in the way that this access mode is also used by MMC which
is free or there is a written line somewhere on www.sdcard.org stating
this fact ?
According to the info present on the site i cannot even USE a SD-Card
without being a member :(
