The easiest way - if there is suitable software in Linux - is to remote 
desktop. This 'just' requires Vista to be set to allow remote desktop login, 
and this sets up all the requirements on Vista itself. The your Linux box 
does a VPN into the work network and you run the 'remote desktop' client on 
Linux, and you can log in.
