For the record, the main purpose of selecting LED is to *avoid* fire.... the existing halogen light charred a hole in to the top of a cupboard door when the door was left open under the light for about 10 minutes. The door is literally missing an half-inch and another half-inch is blackened and charred like burned wood. So, avoiding fire is the primary motivator. Doing so while maintaining a 'pleasant' quality of light is the second motivator. The third motivator is cost/availability. I will do more research in to CFL. Perhaps there is something in there that will work.
