I have to agree with Russell here, I arrived in NZ in dec 2006 and joined telecom because they - to my knowledge - own the lines here and I always try to go for the company that owns the lines because when things go bad as they have a habit of doing you are not reliant on some bod from the company that you signed up to, to chase the main supplier company. You can simply do it yourself and more often than not, get some satisfaction. Incidentally apart from the minor outage very rarely - TC have been extraordinarily reliable for us in 2 years I simply haven't had any real reason to get in touch with them. On the buying internet on a pay-per-use basis. When we were visiting over here years ago - I simply got a dialup set up with a company over the phone on the day I arrived (literally arrived - unpacked, found what our tel number was - grabbed yellow pages and rang around for a fixed price deal for the term required. Sure its not fast - but it was one cost only and for the month / six weeks - we had all the internet we needed. Just remember to ask your friends NOT to send you large attachments for that period (or filter your mail appropriately). Subject: Re: [OT]Pay as you go broad band in New Zealand???? When it comes to providing raw internet service TC are about as good as you can get in NZ. But, pray that nothing gos wrong, because whenit does they have no clues at all about how to behave well or fix things promptly. I use their service, and I stick with them because most of the time it just works and their data rates generally don't bod down nearly as much as almost eveyone else's when traffic is high. But when something goes wrong - and it does happen often enough to annoy, then you can be sure that you are in for an exciting and interesting time.
