To their dredit, they ultimately seemed to sort things out OK. Along the way my wife ended up talking to a Vodafone helpdesk located in (new experience for us) Cairo, Egypt. I'm sure that Egypt is a fine place for all sorts of things but having a technical helpdesk there rather suggests that low cost rather than tyechnical excellence was the aim.
