OK, I sit corrected, maybe the law has changed. Last year there was a 
hooha over the licencing authority refusing to issue an electric car 
conversion because it didn't have an exhaust - mind you it didn't have 
the requisite Australian approved fuel cap either.

In fact the AEVA were bemoaning the stupidity of legislators not 
keeping up with technology, of course there has been a change of 
government last year, so maybe they snuck in an amendment.
