slow migration:
- all serial port peripherals I have work with usb-serial converters
- if I buy new stuff it will nearly always be USB
- our school is switching to new ARM boards that have an FTDI2232 
instead of a wiggler
- I insist on at least one PCI slot in a new PC, but I have not needed 
it for the last few years
